Abstract

Critically surveys literature on the principles of education and educational psychology to determine whether the basis of the field of method should be found in the learning process or in the logic of the subject-matter. The books have been classified into four categories: (1) general method (2) the principles underlying the teaching process (3) special methods, and (4) experimental studies. The newer view of method maintains that sympathy engendered by insight and directed to a pupil in a particular critical situation is needed to device means for the solution of the problems.
