Responds to the comments of J. J. Ray (see record 1984-22146-001) that the present authors' method for removing measurement error attributable to acquiescence during attitude scale development does not take into account the contention that acquiescence does not generalize. The present authors contend that it is irrelevant whether distortion is due to acquiescence results from the responses of individuals who always acquiesce no matter what questionnaire they are filling out or from individuals who tend to be consistently acquiescent throughout a particular questionnaire; either group would cause a distortion.
