Abstract

In this chapter we have looked at the similarities and differences between the three major types of associative learning: Classical conditioning, instrumental conditioning, and operant conditioning. In addition, it was suggested that a distinction be made between instrumental conditioning and operant conditioning. The control procedures and essential elements necessary to conduct an experiment on instrumental and operant conditioning were identified and discussed.
