Abstract

The authors of this chapter review the use of contingency management approaches, particularly coupon-based incentive programs, to increase injection drug users treatment-seeking behavior and actual entry into drug abuse treatment programs. They first review the use of contingency management procedures as recruitment efforts in health programs generally and then how these procedures have been applied in drug abuse treatment programs. They then focus on the use of coupons–vouchers as a way to attract clients to treatment and as a platform on which to build applied research.
