Abstract

Although the influence of the TAT on mainstream assumptions in psychology has so far not been great, the author hopes to show that as its approach evolved in various ways, a case for a revolutionary new approach to psychology may slowly be building up, involving the psychology of mental content. To provide evidence for such a bold assertion, the author briefly reviews how the TAT approach has evolved in the study of human motivation, identifying themes in the life story, discovering cross-cultural themes, and shaping the behavioral event interview and the study of competencies.
