Abstract

In this editorial, the author argues that the history of any science reveals a curious pendular movement of human thought in its efforts to grasp and systematize the complex phenomena of nature. After discussing the recent changes in physiology, the editor notes that a similar swinging of the pendulum can be detected in psychology, specifically educational psychology. As in physiology so in educational psychology the present trend is away from explanations in mechanistic or mystical terms toward correlations of activities and the discovery of the "inter-related normals" on which the learning process depends.
