Abstract

Reviews the book, Introduction to psychiatry by O. Spurgeon English; Stuart M. Finch (see record 1955-01072-000). Intended as a beginning text for medical students, Introduction to Psychiatry can serve as well to orient graduate students in psychology and related social sciences to modern psychiatry. In addition to the systematic treatment of personality disorders, there are excellent, succinct chapters on personality development and structure, child psychiatry, principles of psychotherapy, and mental hygiene. A tremendous amount of psychiatric material is covered in this text, most of it necessarily brief - perhaps too brief for reference purposes. It was designed, however, as an "introduction," and as such is excellent. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
