Abstract

This article examines whether there is a conflict between the individual's rights and the APA Code of Ethics. The author does not believe there must necessarily be a contradiction, but the APA Code of Ethics is ambiguous about the rights of clients of a psychologist employed by an institution. There is apparently considerable misunderstanding of the standard it endorses. As a result, there are many psychologists today who are violating the rights of their clients. The author tries to make clear what the Code of Ethics requires and what it should require of any professional psychologist. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
