Abstract

This reprinted article originally appeared in (Social Problems, 1954, Vol 2, 104-111). Peer groups play an important role in determining the norms of adolescents. This is demonstrated by a study of the attitudes of 322 adolescents toward feminism. Findings in this study thus suggest that the importance of family norms diminishes during adolescence while the importance of peer group norms become more significant.
