Abstract

In the last three chapters we adduced evidence to prove the naturalistic bent of four of the most distinguished contemporary leaders of education in the United States. In demonstrating their influence we showed to what a considerable extent their opinions and theories had permeated the educational thinking of the times. The problem which this chapter undertakes is to discover to what extent the teachers of America have been influenced by these naturalistic tendencies. What tangible evidence is there at hand to prove that naturalistic currents of thought are motivating the education of American youth? In a word, what evidence is there to demonstrate the fact that the philosophies of education professed by American teachers tend to naturalism?
