This chapter addresses Spanish language adaptations of the MMPI and MMPI-2. After providing a brief history of the revisions of the MMPI and MMPI-2, the authors turn to a more detailed historical survey of the use of the MMPI and MMPI-2 in several Spanish-speaking countries, some beginning more than 55 years ago. This will provide the reader with an understanding of the generalizability and adaptability of the objective assessment instruments in such countries. Although numerous countries are discussed, the focus of this chapter is on the extensive adaptation and validation research on the Spanish language version of the MMPI-2 for Mexico.
