This chapter is divided into three sections. The first section is respiration in the air. Topics include change produced in the air by respiration; carbonic acid; oxygen; nitrogen; and cold-blooded animals vs warm-blooded animals. The second section is respiration in the water. Topics include changes produced in the water by the respiration of fishes; and respiration of fishes by the skin and in the air. The third section is respiration of the embryo of animals, including birds and insects, and mammalia.
