Abstract

This chapter discusses various means which favour or determine the cross-fertilisation of plants. It also examines benefits derived from cross-fertilisation. Self-fertilisation favourable to the propagation of the species as well as a brief history of the subject are covered in the chapter. Object of the experiments, and the manner in which they were tried, statistical value of the measurements and the experiments carried on during several successive generations are explored in further detail. The chapter goes on to show the nature of the relationship of the plants in the later generations, the uniformity of the conditions to which the plants were subjected and some apparent and some real causes of error. The amount of pollen employed coupled with the arrangement of the work is described ending with the importance of the conclusions. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2017 APA, all rights reserved)
