Abstract

In this chapter, the author describes her experiences working in private practice conducting consultative examinations for the Disability Determination Services (DDS) branch of the State of Oregon Department of Human Services, otherwise known as Social Security Disability. Disability Determination consultative examinations are conducted at the request of the Office of Disability Determination to provide them with additional information regarding an applicant for disability benefits. Individuals are eligible for Social Security income if they are disabled. Topics discussed include necessary training, referrals, and sources of information regarding disability examinations.
