Abstract

While the authors of other chapters in this book explore the various dimensions of positive interactions between humans and animals and their potential benefits for human physical and psychological health, our task is to describe recent research findings related to cases where animals are abused by humans and their implications for mental health and developmental psychopathology. We discuss the challenges of defining and assessing animal abuse, as well as the relationship between animal abuse and conduct disorder. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
