Abstract

For children even more than for adults a city setting imposes limitations on activity. The city child, at least during his first ten to twelve years, spends more time with adults than does his country cousin. The ways he chooses, or is helped, to amuse himself have almost as much effect on his parents' nerves and living patterns as on his own. If, as a result, too many restrictions on his freedom are imposed, great portions of himself may remain undiscovered and unused. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
