In earlier chapters we have seen the importance, in human personality and conduct, of certain inborn tendencies; and we have noted their different strength in different individuals. We now come to consider rather the influences of environment and training. Environment itself, however, must work upon some tendency within the child, and in this chapter we will consider the appeal to the impulse to imitate.
