Abstract

The education of each rising generation, it must appear from the foregoing facts, is chiefly indirect. Apart from all its conscious effort society is educating its children to participate in the life about them. The educational influence of the 'social heritage' cannot be fully appraised. A brief résumé, however, will simplify the task of the remaining chapters. What is the nature and extent of extra-school education, and what is the nature and extent of the task remaining for the school? (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
