Abstract

With your manuscript complete, you should be excited about sharing it with others and getting it published. In doing so there are protocols to follow, issues of professional etiquette to consider, and unethical actions to avoid. These ethical breaches include submitting your manuscript to more than one journal at a time, getting it published more than once, and writing more than one paper from your data with the knowledge that all of the results could have been presented in one manuscript. I discuss these matters in this chapter. I also present advice on how to choose a journal and how to construct the cover letter that will accompany your submitted manuscript so that it is professional and reveals the information the editor needs to know to put your work in proper context.
